Make a delicious, creamy, chocolate-flavored Wendy’s Frosty at home in minutes using just four ingredients and a blender—it tastes exactly like the original!
Homemade Wendy’s-Style Chocolate Frosty

Growing up, one of my favorite treats was a Wendy’s Frosty. There’s something special about that cold, creamy chocolate treat—it’s so refreshing! We don’t have a Wendy’s nearby, so imagine my excitement when I discovered how easy it is to make a homemade version (or copycat) of the famous Wendy’s Frosty... without needing an ice cream maker! You simply blend, freeze, and enjoy. And it tastes exactly like the original!
I’ve seen similar recipes that use only three ingredients, but we add cocoa powder to ours for an extra boost of chocolate flavor. Trust me, it makes a difference, and the recipe remains incredibly easy to prepare using simple ingredients you likely already have at home.
This homemade chocolate Frosty is slushy, creamy, and packed with chocolate flavor. It makes enough for the whole family to enjoy... or you can keep it in the freezer and serve yourself a portion whenever a craving strikes! Mmmm...
Ingredients
- 4 cups chocolate milk
- 8 ounces frozen whipped topping (such as Cool Whip)
- 7 ounces sweetened condensed milk
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder

Kitchen tools used
- Blender
- Loaf pan
Instructions
- Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend until well combined. At this stage, the chocolate mixture will have the consistency of thick chocolate milk or a milkshake.
- Pour the mixture into a rectangular pan (such as a loaf pan) and place it in the freezer.
- Every 30 minutes or so, remove the pan, stir or whisk the mixture, and return it to the freezer.
- After about 3 hours in the freezer, you will have achieved the perfect frozen consistency! Serve in a glass and enjoy! (If it is too hard to serve, simply leave the pan at room temperature or move it to the refrigerator for a while to soften).
Preparation Tips

- Yield: This recipe makes enough for about 4 servings, depending on the size of the glasses.
- Variations: You can create different flavors by changing the type of milk and omitting the cocoa powder. For example, use strawberry milk to make a strawberry *frosty*. Use regular milk and a teaspoon of vanilla extract to make a vanilla version.
- Dairy-free version: You can turn this into a dairy-free dessert with a couple of substitutions. First, use a dairy-free chocolate milk, such as chocolate almond milk. Substitute the regular condensed milk with sweetened coconut condensed milk. Finally, check the ingredient list for the whipped cream topping; some brands contain milk or cream, while others do not. There are tasty dairy-free whipped cream options available in the supermarket's freezer section. You can use the same quantities of dairy-free ingredients and follow the same recipe steps.
- Consistency: Our *frosty* is designed to be enjoyed either with a spoon or by sipping through a straw as it melts... just like the original. If you prefer a thicker consistency, you can freeze it for about an hour longer until it reaches the desired texture. You can also use slightly less chocolate milk: 3 cups instead of 4. This will result in a thicker *frosty*, similar to soft-serve ice cream, making it ideal for eating with a spoon.
- Storage: You can keep the mixture in the freezer for a few days and serve it whenever you like. Make sure to cover the container or use a freezer-safe container with a lid. Once completely frozen, let it thaw for 5 to 10 minutes, then transfer it to a blender and blend until it regains its original creamy texture. After about a week, the mixture may start to crystallize in the freezer.
- Expert tip: If you’ve never tried dipping french fries in your *Frosty*... do it! Trust me! That combination of cold, creamy chocolate makes it the perfect accompaniment to french fries!
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use real whipped cream instead of whipped topping?
Real whipped cream is delicious, but I would avoid using it in this case. Whipped topping (like Cool Whip) contains stabilizers that keep it "fluffy," which is exactly what we want for our *frosty*. Dairy-based whipped cream tends to turn liquid over time, so it won't maintain the right consistency for this recipe.
Is it necessary to use cocoa powder?

You can certainly make this recipe with just three ingredients: chocolate milk, whipped cream, and sweetened condensed milk. However, a little cocoa powder adds a lot of chocolate flavor! Alternatively, you can use one to two tablespoons of chocolate syrup.
