Brazil best selling models ranking in 2026

Brazil’s Model Ranking in 2026 reports the Volkswagen Tera and the BYD Dolphin Mini as the two standouts in the top 10, highlighting the structural transition that the market is experiencing. The Volkswagen Polo instead stumbles in 2nd, donw by 8.2%.

Brazil’s vehicle market is expanding in September 2026, with growth concentrated in several fast-rising nameplates and a contrasting mix of gains and declines among established models. Volkswagen, Fiat and Chevrolet show divergent results within their respective lineups, while BYD records strong increases across both ranked models, highlighting shifting competitive momentum.

YTD sales reached 2,156,131 units for the period ending September 2026, representing 19.5% year-on-year growth.

Volkswagen’s contrasting results reveal a divided portfolio

Volkswagen combines one of the ranking’s strongest increases with several declining nameplates. Tera surged 297.8%, the second-largest reported gain in the top 25, while T-Cross increased 8.0% and Nivus advanced 3.7%. These results contrast with Polo, which declined 8.2%, and Saveiro, down 19.9%.

The gap between Tera and Polo is particularly pronounced. While Tera is expanding at a rate far above the national market’s 19.5% growth, Polo is moving in the opposite direction. Saveiro’s decline further demonstrates that Volkswagen’s performance cannot be characterized by a single brand-wide trend.

The data instead points to sharply different trajectories among Volkswagen’s ranked models. Tera is an exceptional growth performer, but the gains are not replicated across the full lineup.

BYD's two models record substantial increases

BYD stands out for the strength of its two ranked nameplates. Dolphin Mini grew 164.5%, while Dolphin increased 241.9%. Both gains are far above the overall market growth rate, placing the models among the strongest positive performers in Brazil’s top 25.

The Dolphin’s increase is particularly notable because it exceeds the already substantial gain recorded by Dolphin Mini. Their simultaneous expansion provides a consistent positive pattern within BYD’s representation in the ranking, unlike manufacturers whose models move in opposing directions.

Great Wall’s Haval H6 also recorded strong growth of 72.7%, adding another substantial increase from a Chinese manufacturer to the ranking. These results demonstrate that some of the most pronounced growth rates are concentrated among a small group of models, although the dataset does not establish the reasons behind their performance.

Fiat combines market-leading positions with mixed momentum

Fiat has the greatest representation in the supplied top 25, with six models. Strada leads the ranking and increased 26.1%, while Toro rose 20.4% and Pulse advanced 27.0%. All three are growing faster than the overall market, making them important positive performers within Fiat’s lineup.

However, Argo declined 2.6%, Mobi fell 4.6%, and Fastback also dropped 4.6%. This split shows that Fiat’s broad presence in the ranking does not translate into uniform growth across its models.

The contrast between Strada and the declining Argo and Mobi is especially relevant because it places a strong result at the top of the ranking alongside weaker performances elsewhere in the same portfolio. Fiat’s results are therefore mixed, with several leading models expanding strongly while others remain below their year-earlier levels.

Chevrolet's Onix grows while other nameplates remain near flat

Chevrolet Onix increased 25.9%, exceeding the national market’s growth rate and establishing itself as one of the stronger performers among the ranking’s established high-positioned models. By contrast, Tracker declined just 0.3%, while Onix Plus fell 0.7%.

This divergence is notable because the three models display different levels of momentum despite belonging to the same manufacturer. Onix is growing meaningfully, whereas Tracker and Onix Plus are essentially stable but moving slightly downwards.

Hyundai shows a comparable split: Creta increased 5.1%, while HB20 declined 8.8%. In both cases, individual model performance varies substantially within the same brand. Chevrolet’s results are more positive overall in this comparison because Onix’s growth is strong, but the other two nameplates are not sharing that pace.

Exceptional growth contrasts with widespread declines among established models

Toyota Yaris recorded the highest year-on-year increase in the ranking at 746.8%, substantially exceeding every other reported gain. The figure makes it the most extreme growth result in the dataset, although no sales-volume detail or further context is supplied to explain the scale of the increase.

At the opposite end, Honda HR-V declined 25.6%, followed by Volkswagen Saveiro at -19.9%. These are the steepest contractions in the ranking, and both stand in sharp contrast to the market’s 19.5% expansion. Toyota Hilux also fell 7.3%, while Jeep Compass and Renegade declined 5.1% and 4.5%, respectively.

The broader pattern is not one of uniform expansion. Strong gains from Tera, both BYD models, Haval H6 and Yaris coexist with declines across several established nameplates. The difference between the strongest and weakest performers illustrates how the national growth rate masks sharply divergent model-level outcomes.

Strategic takeaway

Brazil’s competitive dynamics are increasingly defined by the contrast between standout individual performers and established models losing ground. Volkswagen Tera and both BYD Dolphins deliver exceptional increases, while Fiat benefits from strong results across Strada, Toro and Pulse despite declines in other nameplates. Chevrolet Onix also provides a clear positive result, contrasting with
